Rotary/Fixed Wing/Ground Critical Care Transport Nurse
My duties are to transport as a team patients who are critically ill from local facilities or scene calls to others who have the specialty needs the patients require by rotor, critical ground services or fixed wing. We also transport critically ill patients to other cities, states and countries when needed by fixed wing services as well as on scene emergencies via rotary wing. During my 29 years both in the Active/Reserve/National Guard, I have had multiple roles. I have been trained as a Chaplain’s Assistant, Logistics Specialists, Combat Medic and Army Vocational Nurse. I have been on 2 deployments over the last 24 years. Desert Shield/Desert Storm in the early 90’s. Also to Bosnia in 2002-2003, where I was Non-Commissioned officer in charge of a 2 bed ER, 8 Bed Hospital in Taszar, Hungary. As the only nurse, I was on call 24 hrs a day for six months. Assigned, there were three medics, a doctor(rotating position), over four million dollars in government equipment and medications assigned to me. We were responsible for care of both U.S. Soldiers, Hungarian soldiers, DOD and local civilians. Myself and my soldiers enrolled ourselves in a basic Hungarian language course to better our relations with our civilian counterparts, soldiers and hospital personnel. As of 14 Oct 2009, I was officially commissioned as a 1LT in the United States Army Reserve, Nurse Corp. I worked in the EMT section of two Companies while in the 228th Combat Support Hospital out of Ft. Sam Houston, TX. Other than having served as a platoon leader for three years, I have served as Assistant Program Director for the medic/LVN sustainment program for our brigade. Also, I also served as officer in charge (OIC) of the burn unit during our drill weekends at Brookes Army Medical Center for our Hospital Unit. We went on a Mercy Mission to Chincha, Peru summer of 2012 where for 10 days we saw and treated a total of 5,000 patients in a clinical setting. During September of 2014, I served as Officer in Charge of a military mission for the 628th Forward Surgical Team with two surgeons, one anesthetist, one OR tech, three medics, one LVN and myself an RN/Officer while attached to an active duty Combat support hospital that supported over 350 Army Airborne soldiers and Army Rangers as well as over 200 Malaysian soldiers during Training Exercise Keris Strike in Malaysia. During the summer of 2015, our unit participated In the Global Medic Exercise which included medical military personnel from a total of nine different countries and over 1500 soldiers. Also, as an army officer, I during this time as well as the time as an enlisted soldier, trained non-medical personnel skills such as the Combat Life Saver Course, additional training to combat medics, nurses, doctors and other healthcare practitioners. As of 06/01/2017, I am now retired from the US Army/Army Reserves as a First Lieutenant as of 05/31/2017.
