Contract Award: $46M to Develop Satellite Systems for the Federal Aviation Administration in Alaska

Harris CapRock Communications has won a potential 10-year, $46 million contract to continue developing satellite systems for the Federal Aviation Administration’s telecommunications infrastructure in Alaska.
David Cavossa, president of government services at Harris CapRock, said the company intends for the satellite technologies to help fulfill requirements of both the FAA and the Alaskan aviation community.
The subsidiary will build two satellite systems for voice and data connectivity under the Alaskan Satellite Telecommunications Infrastructure program, through which the FAA manages air traffic between remote facilities in Alaska and other sites, Harris CapRock said Tuesday.
ASTI is the replacement of the former Alaskan National Airspace System Interfacility Communication System and Harris CapRock worked under a separate contract to modernize system components, network management system and security infrastructures. The contract contains a two-year base period and eight one-year options.
