A federal audit has found problems with the State Department’s oversight of security at the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan.

The audit, issued November 3, showed that, years after the deadly attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, and long after Washington policymakers pledged to bolster protection for diplomats in danger zones, the State Department has failed to properly manage a security contract for one of the nation’s largest and most threatened embassies.

C3PO International Ltd. filed a counterclaim against DynCorp International, LLC’s bid to escape a nearly $6.6 million Texas federal court suit over the abandonment of a C3PO facility (Camp Pinnacle) in Afghanistan following a bombing, saying it had “easily” met the threshold to plead breach of contract.

C3PO, a subcontractor to DynCorp under a U.S. Department of Defense contract to provide logistical support to the Afghan National Police, argued in a response brief that it had addressed perceived deficiencies in its pleadings with an amended complaint, showing the legal feasibility of its claims, with the suit at too early a stage for the court to rule on the merits.

Security company G4S is refusing to address concerns over its involvement in the running of the U.S. prison at Guantánamo Bay.

The human rights and legal charity Reprieve submitted a complaint to the UK government earlier this year, arguing that G4S has breached OECD Guidelines because of its contract to supply ‘base support operating services’ at Guantánamo Bay. The nature of support services provided by G4S are not made clear, and the company has refused to give further details about the $113 million contract, prompting concerns that G4S could be contributing to the abuse of detainees at the prison.
