DART team

At the direction of President Biden, the United States Government rapidly mobilized to assist the Government of Haiti and the Haitian people after the devastating earthquake.

U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) coordinated international response efforts, announced the deployment of a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) to Haiti. The U.S. Government is coordinating efforts across Departments and Agencies and with international partners and organizations to respond quickly to needs in Haiti.

The Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) has selected 12 Architectural and Engineering (A/E) firms for the Worldwide Architectural and Engineering Support Services Indefinite Delivery/ Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ).

Selected from the distinguished stage one shortlist of 25 firms, these teams will provide program-level process- and procedure-improvement support, existing facilities surveys and analyses, and other project-specific support such as master plans, security mitigation studies, site expansion studies, project phasing analysis, and historic structures surveys.

The new Embassy, constructed by B.L. Harbert International of Birmingham, Alabama and designed by Davis Brody Bond Architects and Planners from New York, New York, applied a holistic approach to environmental responsibility. Multiple energy-saving features enhance its performance, including the use of high-efficiency chillers, low-flow toilet fixtures, and efficient lighting solutions.

Wastewater will be treated on-site, recycled, and reused for irrigation, lessening the burden on the city’s utility systems. In addition, energy consumption is reduced by limiting the building’s exposure to solar heat gain through its north-south orientation and use of exterior metal sunshades.
