Position: Senior Inspection Engineer for Integrity Assurance Department
Duties: Grow the inspection section of the Maintenance and Integrity Department by recruiting national personnel, plan their career path, manage their daily activities, enroll them into necessary training courses, and mentoring.
- A pioneer member for the first Shell Risk Based Inspection methodology to be accepted by the Russian Federal authorities “Rostekhnadzor” for use on pressure retaining equipment for onshore and offshore facilities.
- Collected equipment data and inspection history (for operating assets) into an MS Excel spreadsheet. Uploaded the data into the Shell Risk and Reliability Management software suit. Identified equipment requiring statutory inspections and tests.
- Defined Production Loss Equation for calculating the economic consequences of failure.
- Created corrosion loops in the RBI software. This was done with the assistance of a corrosion engineer.
- Assigned failure modes to the respective corrosion loops.
- Defined the operating window with the assistance of the asset lead operator and/or production technologist.
- Conduct a short S-RBI Overview Training course to Study members prior to conducting a workshop.
- Facilitate the RBI Study workshop comprised of the corrosion engineer, production technologist, maintenance engineer, inspection engineer, and Russian certifying authority representative.

- Compile equipment hierarchy and schedule data from CMMS (SAP Blueprint) and RBI inspection tasks, and intervals into an MS Excel spreadsheet for uploading to IDMS.
- Organizing the data in Excel included writing macros to automate the process and reduce errors.
- Test the data quality and the interface between IDMS and RBI software.
- Train inspection engineers in the use of IDMS.
- Maintain the IDMS database integrity.
- Develop pan-asset inspection strategies for each type of equipment. These strategies included statutory requirements, industry standards, Shell’s Design Engineering Procedures, and, when applicable, certifying authority requirements.
- Procedures were written to define the execution requirements specified in the strategies.
- Work instructions were written when for more detailed requirements identified in the procedures. This usually applied to a specific type of test or inspection for a given piece of equipment.
- Develop contract strategies for baseline NDT survey, third party inspection services, underwater maintenance and inspection services, American Bureau of Shipping survey services and industrial safety technical expertise services.
- Introduce new technology nondestructive testing methods like automated ultrasonic testing (teach local nationals how to use the NDT Systems PortaScan 007), eddy current testing, remote visual testing using Everest systems and radiographic techniques.
