According to the Department of Defense (DoD),  $83,417,599 was added to a previously awarded contract for logistics support for the Hunter Unmanned Aircraft System. Work will be performed in Sierra Vista, Arizona and in Afghanistan with an estimated completion date of Oct. 30, 2016. Fiscal 2016 operations and maintenance (Army) funds in the amount of $83,417,599 were obligated at the time of the award.

According to the Department of Defense (DoD), $8,372,456 was added to previously awarded contacting for environmental footprint reduction. Work will be performed in Afghanistan, with an estimated completion date of May 1, 2018. Fiscal 2016 operations and maintenance funds in the amount of $8,372,456 were obligated at the time of the award. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntsville, Alabama, is the contracting activity.

Top U.S. military commanders, who only a few months ago were planning to pull the last American troops out of Afghanistan by year's end, are now quietly talking about an American commitment that could keep thousands of troops in the country for decades. The shift in mindset, made possible by President Barack Obama's decision last fall to cancel withdrawal plans, reflects the Afghan government's vulnerability to continued militant assault and concern that terror groups like al-Qaida continue to build training camps whose effect could be felt far beyond the region, said senior military officials.
