Around $300 million a day was spent according to a Brown University calculation – that was spent on private contractors to power the logistics. Private contractors served largely as hired guns, but also as cleaners, cooks, construction workers, technicians, and servers on sprawling U.S. bases.

The U.S. Army has awarded Raytheon Company a more than $1.5 billion contract for production of Poland's Patriotâ„¢ Integrated Air and Missile Defense System including spare parts, support and training.

According to the Department of Defense (DoD), the contractor was awarded a $150,232,141 contract for technical expertise and assistance in the training, planning, fielding, deployment, operation, maintenance management, configuration management, logistics support, installation and sustainment of the Qatar Patriot Air Defense Systems and associated equipment.

Work will be performed in Doha, Qatar, with an estimated completion date of Nov. 30, 2022.

A former Army contractor in Iraq who helped to steal and sell more than $2.6 million in U.S. military property must serve nearly four years in prison. Stacey B. Hines pleaded guilty in April to conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and to theft of government property.

Hines, of Lacey, Washington, was employed by Raytheon and assigned to Camp Taji (TAH'-jee) in 2012 and 2013 when eight cargo containers filled with vehicle and machine parts, computers and communications equipment went missing.

Raytheon Co., Andover, Massachusetts, was awarded a $6,959,530 modification to foreign military sales contract W31P4Q-12-C-0078 to add an additional 138 man-months for the United Arab of Emirates (UAE) Patriot technical assistance contract for Patriot missile system ground support equipment.

Work will be performed in Saudi Arabia and the UAE with an estimated completion date of May 31, 2016. Fiscal 2015 other procurement funds in the amount of $ 6,959,530 were obligated at the time of the award. Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contracting activity.

Raytheon Company has been awarded a contract re-newal with a potential value of $13 million to provide support services for the previously upgraded U.S. Air Force Cobra Dane radar facility.

Valued at up to $18 million if all options are exercised, this is Raytheon's first border security-related contract in Southeast Asia.

Under the two-year base contract, Raytheon will design and construct a National Coast Watch Center (NCWC); support integration of data from various agencies into the NCWC; and provide acquisition, installation and training on an automatic identification system as well as radio communications for the Government of the Philippines. The contract was awarded July 2013, and will end July 31, 2015.

Dyncorp International

DynCorp International is consolidating its business units and starting a new group in an effort to expand into more international work. The shift is only the latest in the defense contracting industry, which is rapidly reshaping to adapt to a slowdown in federal spending.

That adaptation is taking different forms. Some, such as Bethesda-based Lockheed Martin, are splitting their business units , while others, such as Hanover-based cyber security firm KEYW, are setting up separate commercially focused units.

Waltham, Mass.-based Raytheon Company last month announced it would consolidate its business units, including combining its intelligence and information systems business with its technical services unit. Last week, the contractor said the resulting intelligence, information and services business will have its headquarters at the company’s Sterling office.
