Experience

68W COMBAT MEDIC
Puerto Rico National Guard , Toa Alta, PR / Oct 2017 – Present
As a soldier of the Puerto Rico National Guard I am trained and
proficient in firearms handling and operation of them as well as
maintaining them. I am trained to stay calm and make quick
decisions under stressful situations. I qualify every 6 months
with the Puerto Rico National Guard to keep my skills up to
date in the use of M4, M16 and M9 platforms. My training also
includes small unit tactics and movement as well as convoy
operations.
As 68W CombatMedic, I work in both field and clinical
environments. My main task is to prevent any injuries to the
soldiers that are on duty. I am well instructed in casualty
assessment both clincal and trauma patients. I usually manage
non emergent cases such as stomachaches, headaches, minor
injuries like ankle sprains or strains, minor blunt trauma and
minor lacerations. But I am trained and proficient in more
complicated skills. The skills I am trained and certified in are the
following:
Battlefield Medicine/Tactical Field Care
• Airway management
• Bleeding control and shock
• Injuries to the thorax
• Abdominal injuries
• Head injuries
• Musculoskeletal emergencies
• Spinal injuries
• Burn injuries
• Ballistic and blast injuries
• Intravenous access
• Battlefield medications
• Documentation
• Evacuation procedures and casualty transport
Garrison/Clinical environments
• Medication administration
• Vaccination
• Vital signs
• CPR
• Wound care
• Patiente assessment
• Documentation
On a battlefield scenario as a combat medic I am well trained to
operate proficiently under stress so I can increase the chance
of survival of those who get injured and prevent further
casualties by conducting the skills mentioned above depending
on the scenario and environment and the injuries that the
casualty has sustained.
During the Covid-19 pandemic starting on April 1, 2020 I’ve
been working hand to hand with the Puerto Rico Department of
Health doing vaccination events against Covid-19 and
conducting both PCR and Antigen tests to help raise the
wellbeing and health of the population. I’ve also played the roll
of data entry to help monitor the positive and negative patients
and help them receive proper treatment and prevent the
spread of Covid-19.
