WASHINGTON — A U.S. House-passed Pentagon policy bill raises concerns about the Defense Department’s use of private contractors in Africa, citing problems encountered in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The lower chamber’s version of the 2015 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), passed May 22, contains a provision that would require the US comptroller general to deliver lawmakers a detailed report about US Africa Command’s ability to “plan, manage and oversee contractors.”

Leonie Industries LLC, Pacific Palisades, California, was awarded a $55,449,092 firm-fixed-price competitive contract for the Military Information Support Task Force-Afghanistan. Work will be performed in Afghanistan, with an estimated completion date of May 21, 2019. Bids were solicited via the Internet with six received. Fiscal 2014 operations and maintenance, Army funds in the amount of $21,398,953 are being obligated at the time of the award. Army Contracting Command, Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois, is the contracting activity.
