Professional Overseas Contractors

The Department of State awarded Caddell Construction Company of Montgomery, Alabama the construction contract for the major rehabilitation of the U.S. Embassy in Athens, Greece. This project includes the rehabilitation of, and additions to, the existing chancery and other buildings. The architect for the project is Ann Beha Architects of Boston, Massachusetts.

Since 1999, as part of the Department’s Capital Security Construction Program, the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) has completed 138 new diplomatic facilities, with an additional 61 projects now in design or under construction.

Construction

According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the contractor was awarded a $9,000,000 contract (Saudi Arabia; Qatar; Bahrain; Kuwait; United Arab Emirates; and Oman) contract for labor, materials, supplies, and equipment required for a full range of professional architect-engineer services.

Bids were solicited via the Internet with one received. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of May 31, 2022.

Construction

According to the Department of Defense (DoD), the contractor is being awarded a $26,978,100 contract for improvement of wharf refueling capability at the U.S. Naval Support Facility, Diego Garcia.  The work to be performed provides for the construction (design-bid-build) of new pipelines from the main pump house to the Deep Draft Wharf; construction of new fuel pits; expansion of the existing main pump house and providing new pumps, filters, motors and controls for receiving and issuing fuel to the Deep Draft Wharf.

Associated work includes filters, cathodic protection, fire protection, lighting and electrical requirements.  Work will be performed at Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory, and is expected to be completed by June 2019.
