At the direction of President Biden, the United States Government rapidly mobilized to assist the Government of Haiti and the Haitian people after the devastating earthquake.
U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) coordinated international response efforts, announced the deployment of a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) to Haiti. The U.S. Government is coordinating efforts across Departments and Agencies and with international partners and organizations to respond quickly to needs in Haiti.

Private Security Contractors on a government mission in Haiti, Chris Osman and Chris McKinley were arrested this weekend in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on conspiracy charges.
Also arrested in the same group was a former US Marine named Kent Kroeker and several Serbian contractors identified as Bajavic Danilo, Vlad Jankovic and three others named Estera Michael, Daniel Dustin, and Burton Talon.
This new electoral calendar aims to have an elected president installed by the end of February 2017. This Travel Alert expires on March 31, 2017.
Haiti’s unfinished presidential electoral process has made the political and security environment more uncertain, with possible demonstrations causing disruption to traffic and access to key locations in Port-au-Prince.

The U.S. Department of State (DoS) Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) has awarded DynCorp International (DI) a task order under the Criminal Justice Program Support Contract (CJPS) to support the U.S. contingent to U.N. Police (UNPOL) in Haiti.
DI team members will recruit and support up to 100 UNPOL and 10 U.N. Corrections Advisors. DI will also provide logistics support to the Haitian National Police (HNP) Academy and each academy class. In addition, DI will supply five high-level French and Haitian Creole speaking subject matter experts to advise senior HNP officials.

Since the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti the demand for private security in Haiti has surged, says a new report from the Centre for International Governance Innovation.The study finds that while many countries rely heavily on private security companies to protect people and property, Haiti stands out for its heavy use of private contractors while providing little effective government oversight.
